We live in an age of radical transformation; in every discipline and at every scale of our society the world is imposing a complete rethinking of what once was.
Optimistically embracing that change over the three weeks of Summer School, Unit 1 has focused on the creation of a Meta Contextual ground on which architects of the 21st century might evolve. Our ground was defined as the tense and uncertain zone that sits between two extremes: Stupid + Sublime = Stuplime. Our Stuplime land took the form of a large-scale carpet, made only of Soft materials, it embraced the fact that we are inevitably transitioning towards a Softer world, refusing on a daily basis the old and conservative Hardness of politics, economy and social behaviours.
All in all Unit 1 was a blind and creative expression of what seems to be the most exciting moment to be an architect: in the Now!
